DeSmit, Frano, Marino Named UMW Scholar-Athletes of the YearMay 03, 2012University of Mary Washington seniors Megan DeSmit and Marina Frano have been named as the 2012 UMW Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, while senior Chris Marino was named as the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

UMW Swimmers Volunteer at Special Olympics Swim MeetApril 17, 2012Members of the University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams volunteered at a local Special Olympics swim meet, serving as marshals, timers, and sang the National Anthem. In addition the UMW athletes served as official cheereladers for the event.

Kerico Gains All-America Honors in 200 Breaststroke at NCAA ChampionshipsMarch 24, 2012University of Mary Washington sophomore Amber Kerico placed 12th in the finals of the 200 yard breaststroke at the NCAA Division III National Swimming Championships in Indianapolis on Saturday night. Kerico, seeded 13th in the event, finished with a time of 2:21.28, two-tenths of a second faster than her morning preliminary time.

UMW's Anderson Gains All-America Status in 400 IM at NCAA ChampionshipsMarch 22, 2012Freshman Alex Anderson finished in ninth place in the 400 yard individual medley at the NCAA Division III swimming championships in Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday. Anderson, who swam to a time of 4:00.43 in the preliminaries, actually swam the fourth fastest time in the finals, but swam from the consolation heat and placed ninth.
