The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team captured
its 12th straight Capital Athletic Conference Championship on
Sunday, and its 18th in the 22-year history of the league.
On Sunday, the Eagles gained victories by Andrew
Garafolo in the 1650 freestyle (16:49.59); Nick
Eckhoff in the 200 yard backstroke with an NCAA
provisional time of 1:53.09; Austin Clark in the
100 yard freestyle at 46.98; Alex Anderson in the 200
breastsroke with a new CAC and meet record and an NCAA
provisional time of 2:05.87; Billy Norfolk in the
200 yard butterfly with an NCAA provisional time
of 1:52.09. The 400 yard freestyle relay (Jack
McHugh, Andrew Cole, Brian O'Donnell,
Austin Clark) took first with a time of 3:10.02.
Junior Nick Eckhoff was named the CAC Men's Swimmer of
the Year, and Alex Anderson was the CAC Rookie of the
Year, as voted on by the league's coaches. Anderson has already
automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships, while Eckhoff
as well as several other Eagles will await possible invitation to
nationals, both on relays as well as individually.
