UMW's Anderson Gains All-America Status in 400 IM at NCAA Championships

Freshman Alex Anderson finished in ninth place in the 400 yard individual medley at the NCAA Division III swimming championships in Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday. Anderson, who swam to a time of 4:00.43 in the preliminaries, actually swam the fourth fastest time in the finals, but swam from the consolation heat and placed ninth. His evening time of 3:55.72 broke his own school and conference record by a full two seconds.

On the women's side, UMW's Amber Kerico finished in 25th place in the 100 yard butterfly preliminaries with a time of 57.54 seconds. Senior Megan DeSmit finished 40th in the 200 yard freestyle preliminaries, with a time of 1:56.92.

All three swimmers will continue at the championships on Friday.
