Long-Time UMW Cross Country/Track and Field Coach Stan Soper to Retire Following 2015 SeasonNovember 25, 2014Long-time University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country and track and field coach Stan Soper has announced his retirement effective at the conclusion of the 2015 track and field season. Soper, one of the most respected and admired coaches at any level of NCAA athletics, retires after 40 years of teaching and coaching, including 31 at Mary Washington, making him the longest tenured coach in school history.

Young took first place honors with a time of 22:21, six seconds ahead of the second place finisher from Slippery Rock, helping the Eagles to fifth place in the team standings. She has claimed top honors in two races this fall, and added a fourth place to her resume as well.
