UMW Women's Outdoor Track & Field Wins 2019 CAC Championship

The University of Mary Washington women's outdoor track and field team captured the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday in Newport News, Va. The championship title is the Eagles' first since 2009, and is the squad's 17th outdoor title all time.

The Eagles finished first with 183 points, ahead of Salisbury (172), Christopher Newport (130), Penn State Harrisburg (94), York (87), Southern Va. (67), and Frostburg (45).

In field events Saturday, Hayleigh Byrd finished fourth in the long jump at 16 feet, 1.75 inches and Jackie Smith was third in the javelin at 111 feet, eight inches. On the track, the big winner was Erin Andrewlevich, who broke the CAC and meet record in the 400 meters at 55.83, and also broke the meet record in the 200 meters in placing first at 24.87. She also finished first in the 100 meters at 12.40.

In the 300 steeplechase, Ashley Applegate was second at 12:19.52, Zoe Rafter was third at 12:32.62, and Kenzie Lloyd was fourth at 12:41.70. The 4x100 relay of Brianna Lightfoot, Valentina Ledezma-Leon, Quintasia Horsley, and Angie Cherikos took second at 50.23; Emily Knerr was second in the 1500 meters at 4:45.62; Byrd finished second in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.98 and fourth in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:08.08; and Cherikos took third in the 100 meters. Jillian Weisbeck took second in the 5000 meters at 19:11.42, while Knerr finished third at 19:17.05. The 4x400 relay of Andrewlevich, Kristy White, Cherikos and Byrd finished third at 4:07.50.
