UMW Men's Outdoor Track & Field Captures CAC Championship

The University of Mary Washington men's outdoor track and field team captured the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday in Newport News, Va. The Eagles tallied 162 points, 20 ahead of second-place Salisbury, who was followed by Frostburg State (121), Christopher Newport (115), Penn St. Harrisburg (111), York PA (80), and Southern Va. (42). The championship is the first outdoor men's title for the Eagles since 2003, and is their seventh title in CAC history.

On Saturday, the Eagles saw Rajai Walton take second in the long jump at 22 feet, eight inches; David Danek win the high jump and Walton take second at six feet, eight inches; and Ripken Smith finish second and Robert Robertson take fourth in the discus at 150 feet, seven inches and 131 feet, two inches.

On the track, UMW saw a 3-4-5 finish in the 110 meter hurdles, with Joseph Branch, D'Andre Chandler-Byrd, and Bryce McAlpine all picking up big points. Laurence Sneed won the 800 meters at 1:52.26, McAlpine finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles at 57.70, Jeff Gibson won the 5000 meters at 15:12.34, and the 4x400 meter relay of Walton, Cameron Coates, Alec Biles, and Sneed finish second at 3:22.19.
