FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington junior Jeff Gibson captured the individual title and Athlete of the Year accolades while team-champion York placed each of its top six runners among the top-16 finishers to highlight the 2018 All-CAC Men's Cross Country team.
The All-CAC squad featured a number of new faces this fall, with just three of the 16 spots consisting of returning all-conference performers. Gibson, the lone repeat first-teamer, became the eighth Eagle to secure Athlete of the Year honors, and first since 2009.
Christopher Newport's Clark Edwards took home Rookie of the Year honors as the top newcomer at the meet. Edwards, who finished in seventh place to also claim All-CAC first team recognition, is the fourth Captain to win top rookie accolades since CNU joined the conference in 2013.
York head coach Stephen LoBianco was honored by his peers as the CAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Spartans to their fourth overall CAC crown. It marks the second COY award for LoBianco, who also garnered the award in 2013 following the Spartans' most recent title.
York grabbed six of the 16 spots on the All-CAC team, led by seniors Ray Smith and Matthew Zubrzycki on the first team. Smith was the runner-up in the race, while Zubrycki finished eighth. A quartet of Spartans collected All-CAC second team nods, including senior Ben Linne, sophomore Jake O'Neill, sophomore Drew Alansky, and freshman Justin Smyth.
CNU, which narrowly finished in second place in the team standings, also secured a pair of All-CAC first team honorees. Along with Rookie-of-the-Year Edwards, senior Joseph Lightbody nabbed first-team honors with a third-place individual finish. Juniors Cavanaugh McGaw and Daniel Cretney captured second-team awards for the Captains, with McGaw earning the honor for the third consecutive season.
The Salisbury duo of senior Conner Masteran and sophomore Mason Kimbell received all-conference recognition for the Sea Gulls. Masteran led the way by finishing fourth individually to claim All-CAC first team accolades, while Kimbell was a second-team recipient.
Southern Virginia collected a pair of All-CAC nods, with junior Mike Myers earning first-team honors and sophomore Colter May landing on the second team. The 2017 Rookie of the Year and second-team honoree, May was one of just three runners to repeat as all-stars this fall, along with UMW's Gibson and CNU's McGaw.
Frostburg State senior Robert Romano represented the Bobcats on the All-CAC first team after placing fifth in the race.
