UMW Women's Cross Country Finishes Second, Men Place Third at George Mason Invitational

The University of Mary Washington women's cross country team finished in second place and the men placed third at the George Mason University Invitational on Saturday at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va.

The Eagles women were led by senior Jillian Weisbeck, who finished in fifth place at 23:27, and senior Emily Knerr, who was sixth at 23:38. Freshman Cameron Delean finished 25:02, and sophomore Carly Hughes took 22nd at 25:47. Freshman Kenzie Lloyd rounded out the top five, finishing 24th at 25:55.

George Mason won the women's side with 25 points, with UMW taking second with 65. The Eagles defeated Norfolk State, VMI, Hampton, and Longwood.

On the men's side, the Eagles saw junior Jeff Gibson finish third overall at 25:59, with freshman Matt O'Cadiz taking 17th at 27:43. Senior J.P. Burklow finished 20th at 28:05, freshman Blake Mason was 24th at 28:26, and junior Austin Jones was 21st at 28:32.

The men's standings saw George Mason take first with 24 points, while VMI followed with 62 points. UMW was third with 81, followed by Howard, Longwood, Norfolk State, and Hampton.

Both teams will be back in action next Saturday as they host the UMW Invitational at 9:30 a.m.
