UMW Men's, Women's Cross Country Both Finish 4th at CAC Championships

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams each finished in fourth place at the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championships in Hershey, Pa., on Saturday.

On the women's side, York finished first with 31 points, followed by Christopher Newport with 33 and Salisbury with 67. UMW scored 130, with Marymount finishing fifth with 171, Wesley sixth with 188, St. Mary's seventh at 194, Frostburg eighth at 196, and Penn State-Harrisburg ninth with 231.

UMW's top finisher was sophomore Jillian Weisbeck in 18th place at 25:14, and freshman Rosie Kostka took 22nd overall at 25:27. Junior Marin Bader was 26th at 25:45, sophomore Emily Knerr took 29th place at 26:15, and Molly Garthwaite placed 35th at 26:53. Hannah Huggins was 46th at 28:32, and Ava Robb-McCord was 52nd at 28:51.

On the men's side, CNU finished first with 16 points, followed by York with 53, Salisbury with 86, UMW with 102, and Frostburg in fifth with 156. Southern Virginia was sixth with 204, St. Mary's in seventh with 212, Wesley in eighth with 244, and Penn St.-Harrisburg in ninth with 250.

The Eagles were led by junior Kyle Pfohl who finished 12th overall at 27:05 and sophomore J.P. Burklow in 14th at 27:09. Senior Kevin McCarthy placed 23rd at 27:50, followed by sophomore Stirling Calhoun in 26th at 28:23, and senior Chris Markham in 27th at 28:30. Jarrett Ashby finished 29th at 28:37, and Stephen Tivenan placed 31st at 28:52.
