UMW Women's Cross Country Places Second at Frostburg; Men Take Third

The University of Mary Washington women's cross country team finished second among eight schools and the men's team took third among seven teams but just seven points out of first at the Frostburg State University Invitational on Saturday in scenic Western Md.

The women took second with 52 points, behind just Gettysburg College and ahead of six Capital Athletic Conference foes. Sophomore Tara Landy was UMW's top finisher in fourth place with a time of 25:05, followed by freshman Lauren Braney in sixth place at 25:24. Junior Liz Green took 10th at 25:40, freshman Sam Park was 15th at 25:59, and Colleen Boyle took 18th overall at 26:10.

The men finished third with 51 points, behind first-place York College with 44 and second-place Salisbury with 48. Junior Corey Lyons was seventh overall at 28:48 and classmate Jeff Branson was eighth at 28:53, with sophomore Julian Menk also claiming top-10 honors in 10th at 29:06. Senior Quincy Schmidt finished 12th at 29:13, and senior Sean Healy was 14th at 29:29.

Both teams will return to action on Friday when they compete at the Paul Short Invitational in Lehigh, Pa. at 1:45 p.m.
