The University of Mary Washington men's cross country team opened the 2010 season with a flourish, finishing in first place in each of its first three competitions, en route to an overall record of 73-18, a second place finish at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships, and ninth place finish at NCAA Regionals.

 The Eagles kicked off the season with a first place finish among 12 schools at the McDaniel College Invitational, with Scott Plunkett taking second overall, and Kyle Anderson and Chris Marino also placing in the top five overall in the 5K race. In the 3K, Marino took first overall, with Anderson taking third and Plunkett fourth, as the Eagles finished first among 11 teams.

 Two weeks later, the Eagles continued their winning ways, as UMW finished first among four schools at Greensboro College. Plunkett led the way with an eighth place finish overall. The Eagles then raced in Salisbury, Md., taking fourth among 18 schools, to kick off October, and then took fifth among 24 schools at the DeSales Invite, as Plunkett again took top-10 honors.

 The Eagles prepared for championship season by taking third among eight teams at the Mt. Olive Invitational, and then took second to Salisbury in the CAC Championships, as Marino, Plunkett, Stephen Harrison, and Anderson took all-conference honors.

 UMW travelled to Memphis, Tenn. for the NCAA South/Southeast regional championships the following week, taking ninth in the team competition, and Plunkett taking all-region honors with a 21st place finish.

 With just one senior lost to graduation from the 20-man roster, the Eagles will look to make a strong impact in the region moving forward to 2011.
