The University of Mary Washington women's cross country team
turned in a pair of first place finishes as well as a pair of
runner ups during the 2010 season.
The Eagles opened the fall with a pair of first place finsihes at
the McDaniel College Invitational, as UMW finished first in both
the 3K race as well as the 5K race. Freshman Liz Green began her
standout season by placing fourth overall in both races to claim
the top spot for UMW in each race.
Two weeks later, the Eagles finished first at the Greensboro
College Invitational among Division III schools, as Green led the
way with a ninth place overall finish. The following week at
Salisbury University, the Eagles took sixth place, as the full
14-member squad performed in force for the first time.
The Eagles took eighth place among 21 schools at the DeSales
University invitational one week later, and then took second at the
Mt. Olive 5K, with Green and senior Sarah Dawes taking top-10
honors.
The Eagles took second place at the Capital Athletic Conference
Championships, as Green took fifth overall, and Madalyn Crowell,
Dawes, and Kristy Witek also gaining all-conference honors by
placing in the top 15.
UMW closed the season with a 10th place finish among 25 schools at
the NCAA Regional Championship, with Dawes gaining all-region
honors by finishing in 18th place.
