2001 Mary Washington College Men's Cross Country Season in Review

With two seniors on its roster, the Mary Washington College men's cross country team overcame several injuries throughout the season to capture the Capital Athletic Conference championship for the ninth time. The Eagles began the season at the University of Virginia's Lou Onesty Invitational, placing fifth among a field of mainly Division One schools. The Eagles then competed at Western Maryland College, placing third of eight schools.

After competing in the Division I George Washington Invitational, MWC had one of its best meets of the season, finishing second at the Virginia state Division II-III championships, with five runners in the top fifteen. Coach Stan Soper's squad then placed fifth of 25 schools at the Gettysburg College Invite, before claiming the Capital Athletic Conference championship at Goucher College.
The Eagles had five runners (Nate Brooks, Dustin Yudowitch, Todd Kronenberg, Jason Hough, and Clint Enos) named all-conference by placing in the top fifteen.
MWC closed the season with a sixth place team effort at the NCAA regionals in Jackson, MS. Brooks and Travis Jones finished in the top twenty in the race, earning
all-region honors. Other top runners for the Eagles in 2001 were Ryan Bayne, Scott Broaddus, Graeme Joeck, Matt Kirk, Jake Rod, and Brian Walsh.

With a solid group returning for 2002, look for the Eagles to again challenge for the CAC title and NCAA regional success.
