1999 Mary Washington College Women's Cross Country Season in Review

The 1999 season proved to be one of the best ever for the 14-member women's cross country team, who finished first as a team in four competitions and in second
place in three more. In all, MWC finished with a 77-5 record, and captured first place finishes at the Radford Invitational, Virginia Division III Championships, the
Mason-Dixon Championships, and the CAC Championships, which were hosted by MWC.

Freshman Jessica Edberg had an outstanding season, finishing as the Eagles' first finisher in five races. She was named CAC Rookie of the Year after placing second in the conference meet. Classmate Stephanie Jenkins had five top-ten finishes to her credit, including third place honors at Radford and at CACs. In all, the Eagles had eight of the top nine runners at the conference meet to win their eighth title in nine years. Joining Edberg and Jenkins as All-CAC runners were Erin Williams, Julie Rakowski, Natalie Alexander, Teresa Joerger, Rebecca Griffith, Dana Folta, Kathleen Toone, and Gabrielle Santilli. With just one senior lost to graduation, MWC (who placed second at the NCAA Regional Championships) should again contend for an NCAA Championship appearance in the fall.
