1991 Mary Washington College Women's Cross Country Season in Review

The women's cross country team captured a fifth consecutive Virginia Division II-III title, and won the inaugural Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) meet, placing five in the top seven. MWC also won a second straight Mason-Dixon Conference crown. Although failing to win the NCAASouth/Southeast Regional for just the second time in seven years, the young squad's second-place finish served notice to the region that 1992 could mark the beginning of yet another run to prominence.

Since 1985, no other Division III team in the South/Southeast Region has approached the success of the MWC program. The Eagles have won five of the past seven regional titles to earn automatic berths to nationals. The 1992 squad takes aim at another regional crown, as well as a repeat of state and conference titles.

With the entire 1991 team likely to return, along with the addition of several talented freshmen, head coach Stan Soper looks forward to a successful 1992 season. "I feel we have the ability to win regionals, but our veterans must step forward with strong leadership."

Seniors Harriet Greenlee (Salt Lake City, UT) - fourth at 1991 regionals and second at CACs - and Lesley Krush (Mechanicsville, MD) are expected to lead the pack. Also returning from the top group will be juniors Kim Manion (Millboro, VA), Karen Dickinson (Lebanon, NH), Stacy Sanders (Baltimore, MD) and sophomores Etta Agan (Fredericksburg, VA), Melissa Brown (Alexandria, VA) and Jennifer Dyson (Richmond, VA). Several freshmen could challenge, including Allison Coleman (Midlothian, VA) and Virginia Clarke (Virginia Beach, VA).
