1991 Mary Washington College Men's Cross Country Season in Review

The men, behind medalist Matt Boyd, captured a CAC championship, alongwith second-place finishes in the Virginia State meet and the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships. Soper was named CAC Coach of the Year, and seniors Boyd and Denny Bradecamp qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Goals for the 1992 Eagles are to defend their CAC Championship, and for continued strong showings in the Virginia State and Mason-Dixon meets en route to a possible second NCAA Regional title in three seasons. However, for the second straight year, new faces (and legs) will have to carry the Eagles.

"For two consecutive years, we have graduated many of our top runners," said Coach Stan Soper. "But once again, we have some solid veterans and a talented recruiting class. What we lack in experience, we hope to make up for with attitude and enthusiasm." Likely spearheading the charges will be senior Murray Chesno (Baltimore, MD), one of the top runners in 1991. He will be joined by classmates Eric Pritchett (Staunton, VA) and Chris Koehler (Fredericksburg, VA). Also expected to join the top group is first-year runner Craig Moyer (Jr./Lansdale, PA). Freshmen to watch include Jon Gates (Winchester, VA) and Peter Steinberg (Alexandria, VA), who could both make an immediate impact, according to Soper.
