#22 UMW Volleyball Tops Christopher Newport, 3-1, to Move to 21-1

The 22nd ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Christopher Newport University, 3-1, on Friday night in Newport News, Va. Game scores were 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18; the Eagles improve to 21-1 overall, and run their win streak to nine straight.

The Eagles and Captains traded the lead back and forth in the first, until grabbing the lead at 19-18. From there, UMW maintained the advantage until the score was tied at 23-23. After a CNU error, a service ace from Bryanna Miller gave UMW the win in the first.

In the second, CNU carried a lead late, but the Eagles responded to briefly take the lead before falling, 25-23. UMW carried the lead in the third and fourh games en route to the win.

Senior Jordan Lyons led UMW with 12 kills and 19 digs, while Chloe Crosen, Bryanna Miller, and Emily Flamm each scored nine kills. Brenna Campbell led with 19 assists, with Lauren Foley adding 18, and Miller led the way with four service aces and 24 digs. 

UMW will return to action on Saturday, when the Eagles host Salisbury University at 2:00 p.m.
