UMW Volleyball Splits Matches at Va. Wesleyan on Friday Night

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday evening in Virginia Beach, topping Pitt-Bradford, 3-0, before falling to the host Virginia Wesleyan, 3-2. The Eagles move to 2-1 on the season.

The Eagles opened with a 3-0 win over Pitt-Bradford. Game scores were 25-13, 25-9, 25-16. Junior Jordan Lyons led the balanced Eagle atatck with six kills, while junior Caitlyn Burch and sophomore Sarah Moore each scored five. Junior Dakota Hansen posted seven assists and 11 digs, while Lyons added 11 as well. 

In the second match, the Eagles dropped the first two sets, before winning the next two, before falling 17-15 in a close battle from start to finish. Lyons led with 19 kills while Moore scored 14. Brenna Campbell added 20 assists, and Lyons and Hansen led with 15 digs.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Eastern Mennonite University at 6:30 p.m.
