UMW Volleyball tops Mt. Mary, Falls to CNU in C2C Semis

The University of Mary Washington volleybal team defeated Mount Mary University, 3-0, before falling to Christopher Newport University, 3-2, in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday in Milwaukee, Wisc. The Eagles move to 19-12 on the season.

UMW faced Christopher Newport in the semifinal round. In the first game, the Eagles fell, 25-20, before coming back to win the next two, 25-14 and 25-17. The Eagles fell in game four, 25-18, and the fifth 15-11.

Sophomore Emma Hadley (Chesapeake, Va.) and senior Aidan Finegan each had 11 kills to lead the Eagles, while senior Olivia Casey (Norfolk, Va.) added nine. Freshman Lauren Foley (Virginia Beach, Va.) had 24 assists, with junior Makenna Santinga (Madison, Va.) added 15. 

Freshman Sarah Moore (Hellam, Pa.) had 21 digs and sophomore Jordan Lyns (Fairfax, Va.) added 15. Hadley had seven total blocks to lead the Eagles.

The Eagles started the day with a convincing 3-0 victory over Mount Mary. Game scores were 25-14, 25-10, 25-14.

UMW roared out to a big lead in the first, hitting .654 in the first, with 18 kills in 26 attempts, with just one error. In the second, the Eagles hit .346 with 12 kills against just three errors, and in the third, hit .348 on 11 kills against three errors. For the match, they hit .453, with 41 kills against seven errors in 75 attempts.

Sophomore Jordan Lyons (Fairfax, Va.) and senior Aidan Finegan (Camp Hill, Pa.) each had eight kills against two errors in the win, while junior Krista Rodgers added seven kills against one error. Freshman Lauren Foley (Virginia Beach, Va) had 23 assists. Senior Olivia Casey and freshman Sarah Moore each had nine digs for UMW.
