UMW Volleyball Drops Matches to Juniata, Messiah on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to 11th ranked Juniata College, and a 3-0 score at Messiah University on Saturday in Mechanicsburg, Pa. The Eagles fall to 11-6 on the season.

Game scores against Juniata were 25-21, 23-25, 27-25, 25-17. The Eagles fought valiantly in all four games, but 30 attack errors in the four games proved costly. 

Senior outside hitter Aidan Finegan had perhaps the best match of her career, scoring 25 kills in 54 attempts, and also added five total blocks. Freshman Lauren Foley had 19 assists and junior Makenna Santinga added 13, and senior Olivia Casey led the way with 21 digs, with senior Abby Wiles added 16. Emma Hadley had six total blocks (one solo, five assists).

In the Messiah match, game scores were 25-18, 25-13, 27-25. Sophomore Kaitlyn Piston had five kills to lead UMW, while Krista Rodgers, Finegan, and Marie Butler each had four. Foley led with 12 assists, as well as eight digs, tied with teammate Abby Tank.

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday when they visit Christopher Newport University at 7:00 p.m. in the first Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference match of the year.
