UMW Volleyball Tops Catholic, W&L to Run Win Streak to Eight Straight

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Catholic University, 3-0, and Washington & Lee University, 3-2, on Saturday at the Anderson Center to run its win streak to eight straight wins, and improve to 10-3 overall on the season.

In the win over the Cardinals, game scores were 25-12, 26-24, 25-20. Sophomore Jordan Lyons posted 13 kills, while senior Olivia Casey posted eight and sophomore Emma Hadley added seven. Junior Makenna Santinga scored 26 assists, while freshman Lauren Foley added 14, and Lyons led with eight digs.

The Eagles then tangled with Washington & Lee, and survived a five-game thriller, winning the first two games, 25-20 and 25-18 before dropping the third and fourth, 25-22 and 25-19. UMW roared out to a big lead in the fifth, and won, 15-4.

Junior Krista Rodgers led the way with 16 kills against two errors in 22 attempts, while senior Aidan Finegan scored 15 kills against two errors in 30 attempts. Casey had 13 kills and Lyons nine. Foley had 26 assists and Santinga 29, and Foley added three aces. Senior Abby Wiles had 23 digs, while Casey added 17.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Gallaudet University at 7:00 p.m.
