UMW Volleyball Tops Mt. Aloysius, Falls to Meredith on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split its Saturday matchup with Mt. Aloysius  and Meredith in Virginia Beach. The Eagles topped Mt. Aloysius 3-0 before falling to Meredith 3-1.

In the first game of the day at Mt. Aloysius the Eagles came out strong defeating the Mounties in three sets. Junior Krista Rogers (Fairfax, Va./ Fairfax) and Senior Aidan Finegan (Camp Hill, Pa./ Trinity) led the Eagles in kills with 9 and 8. Senior Abby Wiles helped with the UMW win with 9 digs while Sophomore Abby Tank (Wilmington, N.C./ Hoggard) added 7. The Eagles ended the first game hitting .346. and serving 16 aces.

In the second game versus Meredith, Freshman Ally Fletcher (Severna Park, Md./ Severna Park) made her mark as an Eagle with 12 kills and hitting .318. Sophomore Jordan Lyons (Fairfax, Va./ W.T. Woodson) and  Freshman Emily Flamm (Spotsylvania, Va./ Courtland) helped the Eagles attack with 10 kills from Lyons and 7 from Flamm. Despite a strong presence on the front, the Eagles fell in four sets to the Avenging Angels.

The Eagles will return to action at home on Tuesday when they take on Eastern Mennonite at 7:00 pm.
