UMW volleyball used a balanced attack to top Salisbury University, 3-1, on Wednesday evening in Salisbury, MD. Savannah Powers led the Eagles with 19 kills, Peyton Dunow chipped in 16 kills, and Tenley Hares had 12 kills. UMW improves to 8-8 overall, and 2-0 in the CAC. 

Salisbury got out to an early lead as they went up 8-5. A kill from Powers and an attack error from the Seagulls brought the Eagles to within one, 8-7. From there, Salisbury grew their lead to 14-10. A timeout was called by coach Alex Hinsey and UMW grabbed three straight points to cut it within one, 14-13. After a side-out from Salisbury, the Eagles then scored four straight to take a 17-15 lead. During that run UMW recorded two blocks, one from Lexie Hendricks and Dunow and one from Hendricks and Powers. An attack error from the Seagulls gave UMW their largest lead of the set, 20-17. Salisbury got back in the set and tied it at 22 a piece. An attack error from the Seagulls gave UMW a set point, and Dunow recorded the set winning kill on an assist from Wren Berry.

The second set went back-and-forth in the early going as the two teams exchanged points. With the scored tied 5-5, UMW scored four straight to go up four. Powers, Makenna Santinga, and Hares all recorded kills during that run. Dunow recorded two straight kills later in the set to go up five, 13-8. After the Seagulls cut into the lead to make it 15-12, UMW scored five straight points with Dunow serving. The Eagles finished off the second set with a kill from Krista Rodgers to win 25-17. 

In the third set, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead on a kill from Hendricks. The Seagulls then scored four straight points to go up 4-1. Salisbury maintained their lead and found themselves up 10-7. The Eagles kept trying to chip into the Seagulls lead, but Salisbury maintained their three point lead at 17-14. The Eagles finally broke into the three point advantage as a kill from dunow, a service ace from Rodgers, and a bad set from Salisbury tied the third set at 17 a piece. After a timeout from the Seagulls, they rallied off four straight points. Salisbury held on to win 25-23. 

The Eagles took an early lead in the fourth that would help propel them to the finish line. With the score tied 2-2, the Eagles scored five straight points Dunow serving. Hares recorded two kills and Powers had one in the run. The Eagles extended their lead to nine, 14-5, on a kill from Hares. UMW gained their largest advantage of the match at 10, 21-11, after an attack error from the Seagulls. With the score 23-13, Salisbury scored four straight to try and get back into the match. With the score 24-20, the Seagulls had a service error to close out the match. 

UMW hit .248, recording 56 kill on 157 attacks. Berry dished out 46 assists on the night, while Kendall Hall led the team with 23 digs. Dunow recorded a double-double as she had 12 digs as well.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will travel to CNU in a CAC showdown at 2 p.m.
