The University of Mary Washington volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a pair of 3-0 wins at the Christopher Newport University Captains Classic in Newport News, Va., topping Keystone College in the opener, and then downing 24th ranked Stevenson University.
UMW defeated Stevenson, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20. Senior Leslie Walters led the team with 10 kills and 14 digs, while Peyton Dunow and Savannah Powers each added seven kills, with Powers adding four service aces. Ryan Cho posted 12 digs and Kendal Hall added 10. Wren Berry added 16 assists, with Hall adding 15.
The Eagles opened with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-9 win over Keystone College. Dunow led with seven kills against one error in 15 attempts, while Keri Gearhart added six kills against one error in 13 tries. Hall had 16 assists, and Cho led with nine digs. Alanah Harris had four kills and four blocks.
The Eagles will continue with matches against Muhlenberg and Susquehanna on Saturday.
