UMW Volleyball Tops Gallaudet, 3-0, on Wednesday Night

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team hitting a scorching .407 with just six errors in the entire match in a 3-0 defeat of Gallaudet University on Wednesday night in Washington, D.C. The Eagles improve to 13-9 on the season; game scores were 25-14, 25-14, 25-17.

In the first game, the Eagles jumped out to a 9-2 lead, with kills from Tenley Hares, Savannah Powers, Leslie Walters, and Peyton Dunow. UMW was able to keep the Bison at arm's length throughout, and used a 4-0 run keyed by two kills from Rachel Voketaitis to close out the first, 25-14.

In the second, UMW held a slim 11-10 lead, before ripping off five straight points to assume control. Walters and Powers each had a pair of kills in the run. Another four-point run put the Eagles on the cusp, and an attack error gave UMW another 25-14 win.

In the third game, a pair of aces from Ryan Cho and a pair of Walters kills gave UMW a fast 5-0 advantage. The Bison were able to cut the deficit to one at 9-8, but the Eagles held a slim margin of lead until the score stood at 18-16. From there, the Eagles used a pair of Dunow kills to kickstart a 5-0 stretch, and closed out the match on an attack error.

Walters led the Eagles with 12 kills, while Dunow added 10. Powers and Hares each had six kills without error. Freshman Wren Berry had 29 assists and two block assists, while Dunow, Jenna Yost, and Cho each had eight digs.

UMW will host Frostburg State University on Friday at 6 p.m. in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup.
