The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 11-7 on the season, and 3-1 in CAC play.

In the first game, the teams stayed within one point of each other until a 4-0 run gave the Eagles a 13-9 cushion. After a timeout, Salisbury answered with three straight to get back to within 13-12, and after two Eagle points, scored three more to tie the score at 15-15. UMW again responded with three straight points, and held a small margin until leading 24-21. Fighting game point, Salisbury scored four straight to lead, 25-24, and had a pair of game points, while UMW had two as well. The Sea Gulls scored the last three to take a 31-29 win.

In the second, UMW jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Salisbury battled back to tie the score at 11-11. Similar to game one, UMW held a small lead until 21-19, but this time the Eagles scored the last four points to take a 25-19 advantage.

The third game saw Salisbury roar out to a 10-2 lead, and held a comfortable lead the rest of the way in a 25-18 win, and in the fourth, another strong start with the first six points spelled trouble for the Eagles. UMW was able to come back and tie the score late at 21-21, but the Sea Gulls claimed the final four points for a 25-21 win.

Sophomore Savannah Powers led UMW with 25 kills, while Peyton Dunow scored 13 and Leslie Walters and Tenley Hares each had eight. Senior Jenna Yost led with 15 digs, while freshman Wren Berry had 46 assists and 12 digs.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they host nationally ranked Christopher Newport University at 7 p.m.
