UMW Volleyball Falls to CNU, 3-0, on Thursday Night in CAC Action

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Christopher Newport University on Thursday night in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 21-10 on the season, and 5-3 in CAC play.

The Eagles jumped ahead in the first set, 5-1, and led, 7-3, before the Captains erupted to take the set, 25-15. In the second, the Eagles again jumped out to an early advantage, only to see the Captains rally for a 25-18 win. In the third, CNU built a late 23-18 lead, but UMW rallied to tie the score at 24 before falling, 26-24.

Freshman Rachel Hendricks led the Eagles with seven kills, while Kyla Foss added six kills and five digs. Dani Fiore had four kills, four service aces, and two block assists. Emma Olson and Jenifer Grove each had nine assists for the Eagles, while Jenna Yost added 13 digs.

The Eagles will close the regular season on Saturday at Marymount University at 1:00 p.m. UMW will host a CAC Tournament first round match next Tuesday against an opponent to be determined at 7:00 p.m.
