Eagles Fall to Washington & Lee, 3-1 on Thursday

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington women's volleyball team lost to Washington and Lee University on Thursday evening, 3-1. The Eagles won game one, but lost three straight to close out the match. The loss drops the Eagles to 14-9 and 4-1 in CAC action.

Game one saw each team go back and forth exchanging points in a highly contested match. The Eagles made a 4-0 run with the score tied at 14 to pull ahead. The Generals fought back, forcing a UMW timeout with the Eagles leading 21-19. The Eagles closed out the game on an Emma Olson (Oakton, Va./Oakton) kill, 25-22. 

The Generals took an early game two lead, 9-5, a lead they never lost. They increased this lead to 13-7 and ultimately winning 25-15. Game three and four saw the Generals dominate play from start to finish. In game three, the Eagles trailed 6-4 before play went back and forth. UMW tied it up at 11, forcing a Washington and Lee timeout. The Generals fought back and took game three, 25-20. 

Game four was dominated by the Generals from start to finish. Washington and Lee started out 6-1, before extending the lead to 12-3. Washington and Lee won the game and the match, 25-9.

The Eagles got 11 kills a piece from Alexis Cummings (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) and Kaitlynn Wickersham (Midlothian, Va./Manchester). Olson added 27 assists in the contest. 

The women's volleyball team returns to action tomorrow, October 25th. The Eagles host Marymount (Va.) in CAC action on Senior Day. The match with the Saints begins at 7:00 p.m.
