UMW Volleyball Falls at NC Wesleyan in Saturday Match

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team fell to 5-2 on the season with a 3-0 loss at North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday in Rocky Mount, N.C. Set scores were 25-21, 25-22, 27-25.

In the opening set, UMW fell behind, 4-0, and could never mount a charge to gain the lead. In the second, UMW jumped out to a 3-0 lead, fell behind 16-11, but rebounded to regain the lead at 21-20. But the Bishops scored six of the final seven points of the set to take a 25-22 win in the second. In the third, the lead changed hands throughout, with UMW gaining a 22-17 edge. But NCWC answered late again, scoring 10 of the final 13 points for the sweep.

The Eagles were led by Laura Gomez, who had 10 kills with no errors, and Kayla Crawford, who also added 10 kills. Courtney Guengerich had 22 assists and Maggie Parrish 14 for the Eagles, while Christine Tran had 16 digs and Kaitlynn Wickersham 12.

Mary Washington will visit Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
