UMW Volleyball Splits Pair at Etown Tourney

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Elizabethtown College Tournament on Friday night. UMW fell in five games to Gettysburg College before topping Immaculata College in three games.

UMW fell to Gettysburg, 20-25, 27-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-13. In that match, junior Tola Adebanjo (Overland Park, Ks., Blue Valley Northwest) led with 17 kills, while Laura Gomez (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) added 15 kills. Freshman Hannah Lawson (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) scored 10 kills, junior Katie Shiflett (Weyers Cave, Va., Fort Defiance) scored 43 assists and added 11 digs, and Kaitlynn Wickersham (Midlothian, Va., Manchester) added 17 digs and four aces.

The Eagles then swept Immaculata College, 25-16, 25-22, 25-22. Adebanjo scored nine kills, Gomez and Lawson each had six kills, Shiflett scored 16 assists and freshman Sammy Hogue (Springfield, Va., West Springfield) added 13 assists.

UMW (10-4) will continue at the Elizabethtown College Tournament on Saturday morning.
