UMW Volleyball Sweeps Two at EMU Invite; Moves to 5-0
Freshmen Hannah Lawson (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) and Becky Conway (Annanadle, Va., W.T. Woodson) were named to the all-tournament team as the University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Eastern Mennonite University and Catholic University to remain unbeaten through the Eastern Mennonite University Invitational on Saturday. The Eagles move to 5-0 on the year.

The Eagles started the day with a 3-0 win over Eastern Mennonite, winning 25-15, 25-21, 26-24. Lawson had 15 kills, three blocks, and six aces, and Karissa Herrick (Colts Neck, N.J., Colts Neck) added eight kills, four aces and three blocks. Laura Gomez (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) had five blocks, Tola Adebanjo (Overland Park, Ks., Blue Valley Northwest) had five kills, and Katie Shiflett (Weyers Cave, Va., Fort Defiance) scored 33 assists for UMW.

In the win over Catholic University, the Eagles prevailed in five games, winning 25-12, 23-25, 27-25, 20-25, 15-10. Lawson had 22 kills and 18 digs, Herrick had 15 kills and five blocks, and Gomez had 12 kills and four blocks for the Eagles. Kaitlynn Wickersham (Midlothian, Va., Manchester) had 14 digs, Conway posted eight kills, and Adebanjo had 14 digs and eight kills. Shiflett scored 63 assists.

The Eagles will be back in action again on Wednesday when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 7:00 p.m.
