The 30th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated #33 Christopher Newport University, 6-3, on Thursday in Newport News, Va. The win improves the Eagles' record to 6-7 on the season, and is the 100th career victory for head coach Alexandra Covington.
In doubles, UMW gained a point at one, as Amanda Hagino and Hana Kimmey scord an 8-4 victory over Raine Weis and Tessa Trate, and another at three, as Riley Smith and Emily Beckner gained an 8-5 victory at three.
In singles, Abby Moghtader gained a 6-3, 7-6 win over Weis at one, Rebecca Stepleman scored a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at four, Beckner won at five, 6-4, 6-3, and Smith won at six, 7-5, 6-2.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they host Swarthmore College at noon.
