UMW Women's Tennis Tops CNU, 9-0, for 2021 C2C Championship

The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated Christopher Newport University, 9-0, on Saturday in the Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference Championship, extending the program's streak of conference championships to 17 straight.

The Eagles started swiftly in doubles, gaining big leads at one and three en route to a 3-0 margin. At one, Abby Moghtader and Lauren Quinn won, 8-4, and Hana Kimmey and Olivia Moore won at three, 8-2. At two, Claire Coleman and Amanda Hagino battled back from an early deficit for an 8-6 victory.

Needing two wins in singles to clinch, the Eagles got a 6-0, 6-0 win from Rachel Cooper at six, and a 6-1, 6-0 win from Coleman at one to claim the crown. The match was played to completion, and the Eagles saw wins from Quinn at three, 6-0, 6-2, Moghtader at two, 6-0, 6-4, Kimmey at five, 6-3, 6-4, and Hagino at four, 6-4, 6-4.

The Eagles will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd straight season, and will await their destination for the NCAA Tournament, to be played next weekend.
