
The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team wrapped up the fall 2018 season by competing in the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational in Annapolis, Md., against Division I competition.
In the main doubles draw, UMW's Claire Coleman and Danielle Mirabella fell in the opening round to Maryland's Usui and Yemelyanenka, 6-2. In the B flight of doubles, UMW's Lauren Quinn and Olivia Moore fell to Dervishian/Kahatapitiya of Navy, 6-2, and Grubac/Schneider of George Washington, 6-3. Rachel Cooper and Sophie Dixon fell in the B flight to Bogdanovich/Komarraju of Navy, 6-0, and Bode/Cutipa of St. Francis, 7-5.
In the B flight of singles, Coleman fell to Katherine Muzik of Rutgers, 6-4, 6-2, and Anastasia Gevel of Maryland, 8-1. Quinn fell to Lucia Seigford of St. Francis, 6-1, 6-3, and 8-2 to Catalina Rico of Navy.
In the C singles flight, Rachel Cooper dropped a 6-1, 6-4 score to Lyndell Giffenig of Richmond, and an 8-6 score to Elena Schneider of George Washington. Dixon fell, 6-1, 6-1, to Amelia Lawson of Towson, and Helene Heiberg of Richmond, 8-6. Mirabella fell to Kacey Moore of Navy, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7, and to Heiberg, 8-3.
The D flight saw Moore fall to Celeste Matute of UNC Wilmington, 6-3, 6-0, and to Phoebe Collins of Towson, 8-0. Emily Bowerman fell to Romina Cutipa of St. Francis, 6-4, 6-2, and to Adrienne Hayes of Richmond, 8-2.
The Eagles will return to action in February when they visit George Mason in an exhibition match on Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m.
