#16 UMW Women’s Tennis Defeats Centre College, York (Pa.) on Saturday

The sixteenth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated Centre College and York (Pa.) College on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. UMW defeated Centre College 8-1, and York (Pa.) College 9-0. The Eagles improve to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

In the first match against Centre College, UMW took an early 3-0 lead in doubles. Ashley Barrow and Kait Brogan won at one doubles 8-1; Rachel Summers and Caroline Mosberg won at two doubles 8-2; Brittany McBride and Danielle Mirabella won at three doubles 8-2.

In singles action, Summers won at one singles 6-2,6-2; Hannah Jabusch won at three singles 6-3, 6-3; Rachel Cooper won at four singles 6-4, 6-3; Addie Hinton won at five singles 6-1, 6-2; and Olivia Moore won at six singles 6-2, 6-0. Centre College took two singles 2-6, 6-3, 10-6.

In the second match, UMW again took a 3-0 lead in doubles. Barrow and Brogan won at one double 8-1; Jabusch and Sophie Dixon won at two doubles 8-2; Sara Fioretti and Cooper won at three doubles 8-1.

UMW dominated in singles action as all of the Eagles won in two sets. Brogan won at one singles 6-2, 6-1; Jabusch won at two singles 6-0, 6-0; Hinton won at three singles 6-1, 6-2; Moore won at four singles 6-1, 6-0; Dixon won at five singles 6-0, 6-0; and Emily Bowerman won at six singles 6-4, 6-1.

UMW will be back in action on Sunday as they will play Penn St.-Harrisburg at 9 a.m. and then face off against CNU at 2:30 p.m. in a CAC showdown.
