#17 UMW Women's Tennis Sweeps York, 9-0, in CAC Semifinals on Tuesday Afternoon

The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team swept visiting York College of Pa., 9-0, on Tuesday in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals at the Battleground. With the win, the Eagles improve to 18-4 on the season, and will host the Capital Athletic Conference Championship this weekend.

The Eagles started the day by taking all three doubles matches, with Caroline Mosberg and Sara Fioretti winning at three, 8-0, over Megan Jones and Jessica Sherman. UMW's Taylor Diffley and Mackenzie Smith were victorious at two, 8-3, over Rachel Wagner and Mckenzie Trout, before Shelby Harris and Kait Brogan won at one for UMW, 8-2, over Katie Wagner and Darian Naill.

In singles, Smith won at five, 6-0, 6-2, over Liz Wiley, and Diffley gained the clincher with a 6-0, 6-0 win at three over Trout. Harris won at two, 6-0, 6-1, and Chrissy Gaul followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at six. Mosberg gained a 6-0, 6-2 win at four, before Brogan closed the day with a 7-6 (6), 6-0 win at one.

Mary Washington will await the winner of Tuesday's other semifinal match between Salisbury University and Christopher Newport University in the CAC Championship this weekend. Date and time are to be announced.
