#18 UMW Women's Tennis Tops #33 Christopher Newport, 8-1, in Saturday CAC Match

The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated #33 Christopher Newport University, 8-1, on Saturday at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center to improve to 16-3 on the season, and 7-0 in CAC play.

UMW opened with three doubles wins. Kait Brogan and Shelby Harris won at one, 8-2, before Taylor Diffley and Mckenzie Smith won at two, 8-4. Sara Fioretti and Caroline Mosberg won at three, 8-1, to complete the sweep.

In singles action, Harris won at three, 6-3, 6-0, before Brogan found the clincher at one, 6-0, 6-3. Mosberg won at two, 6-3, 6-2; Diffley won at four, 6-2, 6-2, and Chrissy Gaul won at six, 6-3, 7-5.

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday against nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 11:00 a.m. UMW will be the top seed in the CAC Tournament, which begins next weekend.
