Fredericksburg, Va.-- The #21 University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated York and Penn State-Harrisburg, 9-0, on Friday. The Eagles lost just one game en route to the victories. UMW now sits at 11-6, 4-0 CAC on the year.
Against the Spartans, UMW won every doubles match 8-0. Lindsay Raulston and Shelby Harris picked up the win at one doubles, while Mackenzie Smith and Alina Suyama won at two. Anna Richman and Paige Weinberg picked up the final doubles win at number three.
Five of the six singles matches were won 6-0, 6-0 for the Eagles. Raulston picked up a zero and zero win at one singles. Smith (two singles), Alex Ritter (three singles), Chrissy Gaul (four singles), and Berri Flood (six singles) all won 6-0, 6-0. Weinberg was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at five singles for the Eagles to complete the sweep.
In the nightcap against the Lions, UMW did not drop a game in singles or doubles on their way to a 9-0 win. Smith/Suyama, Ashley Barrow/Alex Ritter, and Michaela Dowd/Gaul earned doubles wins. Smith, Ritter, Weinberg, Flood, Dowd, and Anna Richman earned the singles points for UMW.
The Eagles are back in action tomorrow, April 5th, when they travel to CAC rival Salisbury. The match with the Sea Gulls begins at 4:00 p.m.
