Frostburg State junior CHAUNCEY MANSON (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) and Mary Washington senior thrower MATT GELLER (Huntington, N.Y./Harborfields) were selected as the CAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 29, 2011.
Manson was named the CAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 100 (10.88) and 200 (21.86) dashes at Susquehanna’s Jim Taylor Invitational. In both events, Manson qualified for the 2011 ECAC Championships. He also contributed to the victorious 4x100-meter relay team that crossed the finish line in 43.07.
Geller was named the CAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after a trio of fifth-place finishes in the shot put (42-2), discus (124-5) and hammer (152-11) at the Washington & Lee/VMI Carnival.
Mary Washington junior attack CATHERINE KENNEDY (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) and UMW junior goalie DANIELLE GUIGLI (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week.
Kennedy was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after providing the spark in the Eagles’ near-upset of 10th-ranked Williams, scoring two goals and dishing out three assists in a 9-8 setback, then totaled seven points (3 G, 4 A) in Saturday’s CAC victory over St. Mary’s to move the Eagles into second place in the conference standings.
Guigli was picked as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after stallwart performances on defense for the 18th-ranked Eagles. She started the week registering 14 saves (60.9%) in a one-goal loss to 10th-ranked Williams, then equaled that total with a 66.7 save percentage Saturday against CAC rival St. Mary’s. She also added three ground balls in each game.
