UMW Women's Swimming Finishes in Third to Complete the Seasonal F & M Invitational

The University of Mary Washington women's swim team finished in third place for the third straight day to cement their ranking at the Franklin & Marshall College Invitational.

Junior Megan Rinald came in second out of only two post-event qualified swimmers (seeing as all other swimmer were disqualified) in her 100 IM, reaching the wall at 1:12.05. Amber Candido finished sixth in the 1650 yard free at 18:01.81. The trio of Kaylie Curran, Amber Candido, and April Groce swam hard in the 200 yard back, finishing with respective times of 2:10.63, 2:15.73, and 2:16.93. Selby Heyman and Thalia Costanza competed in the 100 freestyle, neck-and-neck at 53.99 and 54.36. The 200 breaststroke swimmers, including Bridget Zagrobelny, Jenny ThompsonDelaney Humphrey, and Juliana Bleeker, who took the following times: 2:24.87, 2:26.25, 2:29.05, and 2:34.83. Margaret Jones took third in a tightly contested 200 butterfly at 2:09.15, with her fellow Eagles Rose McMullen and Bridget Wilson earning sixth and ninth place at 2:11.66 and 2.11.44. All three of UMW's 400 freestyle relay teams placed in their last event of the meet, as the A relay of Brooks, Heyman, Jones, and Constanza finished in fourth at 3:36.42, with the B and C relays finishing at 3:41.78 and 3:46.12.

The Eagles will have a long break and resume swimming on January 14 at Catholic University to face the Cardinals at 1 pm.
