UMW Women' Swimming Tops Both York College, 212-49, and Franklin & Marshall, 138-124

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team gained a pair of victories on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall College, as the Eagles topped York College of PA, 212-49, as well as the Diplomats, 138-124. The Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Eagles started the day off in first place in the 200 medley relay of  Phoebe Root, Kinsey Brooks, Bridget Wilson, and Thalia Costanza, with a time of 1:39.28. UMW gained victories from freshman sophomore Ashley Dyer, freshman Amber Candido, and sophomore Kaylie Curran, in the 1000 freestyle at 11:03.65, 11:13.86, and 11:18.08, resepctively. Dyer (Chesterfield, Va.) gained first in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:59.75, freshman Phoebe Root (Hope, Maine) placed second in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:03.53, with Kinsey Brooks and Bridget Zagrobelny took the top 2 spots in the 200 yard butterfly, 200 yard breaststroke, and 200 IM, with times of 2:15.10 and 2:18.54 in butterfly, 2:27.57 and 2:29.14 in breaststroke, and 2:13.94 and 2:18.55 in the IM. Sophomore Margie Jones (South Portland, Me.) placed second in the 100 yard freestyle at 55.85, while Amber Candido locked up second place in the 200 backstroke at 2:15.37.

The 400 free relay teams of UMW placed third and fourth with times of 3:47.08 and 3:53.00 to cap the meet.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday, when they visit St. Mary's College of MD at 4:00 p.m.
