Kinsey Brooks Headlines VaSID All-State College Division Women's Swimming Team; 12 Honored

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Washington and Lee University and University of Mary Washington headlined the 2021-22 Virginia Sports Information Directors' College Division All-State women's swimming awards, VaSID announced Monday afternoon.

UMW sophomore Kinsey Brooks and W&L sophomore Brynn Martinson shared the women's swimmer of the year honor, while Martinson earned the All-State rookie of the year award. Mary Washington head coach Justin Anderson won the coach of the year honor.

Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion Washington and Lee led the awards tally with 10 individual and five relay All-State awards, including 13 on the first team. UMW's 12 honors – including Brooks' two first-team accolades – were second among the Commonwealth's College Division programs. University of Lynchburg, Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College, and Southern Virginia University also saw swimmers honored.

The co-swimmer of the year, Brooks landed on the first team in both breaststroke and individual medley categories. The sophomore from Lake St. Louis, Mo. earned All-America honors in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes and the 200 individual medley at NCAA Division III nationals. She was seventh in all three events. Brooks helped lead UMW to the Metropolitan Collegiate Swimming & Division Conference title and was named female swimmer and rookie of the year.

Anderson led Mary Washington to the Metro title in 2022, and his Eagles took 20th place at the NCAA Division III championship meet. The fourth-year head coach was the Metro women's coach of the year.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
