UMW Women's Swimming Tops York, F&M on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team gained a pair of victories on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall College, as the Eagles topped the Diplomats, 189-73, as well as York College of PA, 221-34. The Eagles improve to 5-1 on the season.

UMW gained victories from freshman Kaylie Curran (Cary, N.C.) in the 1000 freestyle at 10:53.04, freshman Ashley Dyer (Chesterfield, Va.) in the 200 yard freestyle at 2:00.20, and freshman Phoebe Root (Hope, Maine) in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:02.17. Kinsey Brooks (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) won the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:06.23, sophomore Margie Jones (South Portland, Me.) won the 200 butterfly at 2:12.02, Thalia Costanza (Centreville, Va.) won the 50 free at 24.81, and came back to claim the 100 free at 54.84.

Sophomore Sarah Yowell (Bristow, Va.) won the 200 backstroke at 2:14.27, and Brooks came back to claim her second win of the day, in the 200 breaststroke at 2:26.36. Dyer followed with her second win, in the 500 free at 5:23.87, Jones earned a sweep in the butterfly events, claiming the 100 at 59.35. Brooks' third win of the day came in the 200 IM, with a first place time of 2:12.69.

The 200 free relay of Costanza, Anna Watson, Sydney Hall, and Brooks finished in first place with a time of 1:39.28 to cap the day.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday, when they visit St. Mary's College of MD at 6:00 p.m.
