UMW Women’s Swimming Captures 30th Straight CAC Championship

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team captured their 30th straight CAC Championship on Saturday in St. Mary's, MD.

The Eagles won the meet with a score of 1,110.5. They defeated York who scored 747, St. Mary's who finished with 494, Salisbury who had 386.5, and Southern Virginia with 119.

Senior Julia Geskey was named Women's Athlete of the Year at the end of the meet. Junior Mary Zagrobelny was announced as Women's Swimmer of the Meet. Thalia Costanza made a big impact in her first championship and she was named Women's Rookie of the Year. Head coach Justin Anderson was announced as Women's Coaching Staff of the Year. 

On the last day of the championships, Zagrobelny took first in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:00.19. Later in the evening, Zagrobelny won the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:24.78. In the 1650 free, Claudia Keller claimed first with a time of 17:33.15. Keller came in second in the 200 yard backstroke. Carley Vaughn placed first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.23. Vaughn also came in second in the 100 yard IM. The Eagles closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay that consisted of Geskey, Sydney Hall, Grace Gartman, and Vaughn.

Hall came in second in the 100 freestyle, and Erin Whitesell placed second in the 200 butterfly. Kaylie Benson placed third in the 200 yard backstroke. Geskey came in second in the 1650 free, while Grace Nicolai took third in the event to round out the top three for UMW. Finishing behind Zagrobelny in the 200 breast finals was Callie Dunham and Sally Burkley to round out the top three in the event.
