Carley Vaughn Named CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its eighth weekly awards of the 2019-20 season. York junior Jake Halem earned CAC Men's Swimmer of the Week accolades, while Mary Washington senior Carley Vaughn claimed CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors.


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Jake Halem - York (Pa.)

York junior Jake Halem led the Spartans to a 2-0 week with a pair of non-conference wins. Halem began the week with two wins in the Spartans' victory at Washington (Md.) on Friday afternoon in Chestertown. Halem won the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.62. He also picked up a victory in the 100 free as he touched the wall in a time of 48.55. Halem earned his third win of the week in a victory over Elizabethtown. Halem won the 100 free with a time of 48.30. Halem now has nine individual wins for the Spartans which is tied for tops on the squad. This marks the third CAC Swimmer of the Week award for Halem this season. 


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Carley Vaughn - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Carley Vaughn, the reigning CAC Swimmer of the Year, claimed three victories as UMW defeated Barton and Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The senior was the leadoff leg of the winning 200 yard medley relay that touched out at 1:50.88, and claimed wins in the 200 butterfly at 2:13.52, as well as the 100 butterfly at 1:00.26. This marks the second CAC Swimmer of the Week award for Vaughn this season.

LEAGUE NOTES

York senior Adrianna Ayala led the Spartans to a pair of non-conference wins this week. Ayala began the week with a pair of runner up finishes in the road meet at Washington. She was second in the 50 free with a time of 26.90 and was also the runner up in the 100 free, touching the wall in a time of 58.98. Ayala celebrated senior day with a team-high two wins for the Spartans. Ayala won the 50 free with a time of 25.32 and followed that with a win in the 100 free. She completed the race in a time of 54.58 to earn the victory...St. Mary's freshman Rileigh Krell earned a first-place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly by swimming a time of 1:03.30. Krell captured another Seahawk victory in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:04.62 to lift the Seahawks to victories over Frostburg St. and Southern Virginia on Saturday...Freshman Sebastian Ludwig recorded a first-place finish in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:47.15. Ludwig won his second event of the meet when he swam a time of 5:10.01 in the 500 Yard Freestyle to lift the Seahawks to victories over Frostburg St. and Southern Virginia....Mary Washington sophomore Thomas Leckrone picked up one of three Eagle victories on Saturday, as UMW defeated Barton Collee and fell to Franklin & Marshall. The sophomore claimed top honors in the 100 yard butterfly at 52.14...Southern Virginia junior Emmy Waite led the Knights' women's team this weekend against St. Mary's (Md.) and Frostburg State as she recorded two top-three finishes. In the 50-yard freestyle, she finished third with a time of 27.88 finishing first for the Knights. Waite concluded her day in the 100-yard freestyle also placing third in a time of 1:02.28...Freshman James Baldwin led the Knights this past weekend collecting a victory in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 22.09 over competitors from St. Mary's (Md.) and Frostburg State. He then followed up his strong performance with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. This is the 11th first-place finish of the season for Baldwin..
