UMW's Carpenter, Whitesell Named CAC Swimmers of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards for the third week of November as the 2019-20 swimming campaign is underway. Mary Washington senior Noah Carpenter earned CAC Men's Swimmer of the Week accolades, while his UMW classmate senior Erin Whitesell claimed CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors.


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Noah Carpenter - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Noah Carpenter helped Mary Washington to a win at York College on Saturday, claiming event wins in three different strokes. Carpenter put the Eagles in the win column with a win in the 1000 yard freestyle at 10:05.18, won the 200 breaststroke at 2:13.85, and capped the day winning for the third time in the 200 IM at 1:59.07.


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Erin Whitesell - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Erin Whitesell led Mary Washington to a CAC victory at York on Saturday, claiming both butterfly event wins, and swimming the fly on the winning 200 medley relay. Whitesell captured the 200 fly at 2:14.34, and then took the 100 fly at 58.57. The winning 200 medley relay touched first at 1:49.61.

LEAGUE NOTES

York senior Justine Wantz continued her outstanding campaign with two more wins while she was also a part of two runner-up relay teams. Wantz won the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:00.23, good for the best time in the CAC in the event this year. She captured the win in the 200 back with a time of 2:12.97. She was a part of the 200 medley relay team and the 200 free relay teams which both placed second on Saturday. Wantz now has a team-leading nine individual wins for the year...Salisbury's Teagan Rohrbaugh earned three individual first-place finishes in the 200-yard Free (2:09.84), 200-yard Breaststroke (2:35.38). Along with assisting in two relay first-place finishes in the 200-y medley (1:59.83; her time was 32.59) and free (1:47.70; her time was 26.47)...Richie Baker earned first place in all three individual events he swam this past weekend; the 200-yard Free (1:51.08), 100-yard Back (58.92), 50-yard Fly (25.03). Baker also contributed to the 200-yard medley relay team who earned first (1:40.73, his portion time was 26.16) at Va. Wesleyan...Southern Virginia freshman James Baldwin led the Knights on the day with a total of six individual victories, helping the men's team earn wins over Ferrum and Bridgewater. The freshmen won the 100 backstroke, 200 backstrokes, and 100 butterfly against both the Eagles and the Panthers.
