
The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team defeated Frostburg State University, 174-75, and Hollins University, 188-48, on Friday night at Goolrick Natatorium in the Eagles' home opener. UMW improves to 5-1 on the season.
The Eagles started the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay, as Beth Kelly, Megan Carney, Erin Whitesell, and Julia Geskey took first at 4:12.83. Freshman Macey Lynch won the 1000 freestyle at 11:08.86, Grace Gartman won the 200 freestyle at 2:03.05, and Mary Zagrobelny won the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.17. Ingrid Dizon won the 200 fly at 2:20.98, Carley Vaughn won the 50 freestyle at 25.56, and Geskey won the 100 freestyle at 56.37.
Lynch took first in the 200 backstroke at 2:17.16, Callie Dunham won the 500 freestyle at 5:33.42, Whitesell won the 100 yard fly at 1:00.78, and Vaughn came back to win the 100 IM at 1:02.79. The 400 free relay of Sydney Hall, Carney, Zagrobelny, and Melissa Autry took first at 3:51.83.
The Eagles will be back in action on November 3 when they visit Barton College at 1:00 p.m.
