UMW Swimming Coach Abby Brethauer Named Associate Head Coach at Tufts University

Abby Brethauer, the head coach of the men's and women's swimming programs at the University of Mary Washington for the past eight seasons, has been hired as the Associate head coach of both teams at Tufts University.

At Mary Washington since 2010, Brethauer has received six women's Coach of the Year honors and four with the men's team in the Capital Athletic Conference, as the Eagles won every CAC Championship. She also served on the Presidential Task Force for Diversity & Inclusion and was the Athletic Department's Community Service Coordinator from 2013-18.

"Abby Brethauer has been a great coach and colleague for the last eight years", said UMW Interim Director of Athletics Patrick Catullo. "In addition, she has mentored numerous championship teams and is a terrific steward for UMW Athletics across campus and in the community. She has not only left an impact on her student-athletes but on our department as well. We will miss her and wish her the best as she takes on her new role at Tufts University."

UMW will conduct a national search to seek its next head coach.
