UMW Women's Swimming in Second Place After Day One at CAC Championships

The University of Mary Washington women's swimming team started strongly in the Capital Athletic Conference Championships through Friday night's events.

The Eagles started with a first place finish in the 800 freestyle relay on Thursday night. Megan Murphy, Michaela Miller, Claudia Keller, and Julia Geskey finished with a time of 7:43.16, cutting over 11 seconds off their season best time.

On Friday in finals action, the Eagles took second in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.58. Freshman Claudia Keller finished first in the 500 yard freestyle at 5:05.85, knocking nearly six full seconds off her season best time. Geskey followed by winning the 200 yard individual medley at 2:08.65, with teammate Callie Dunham finishing third, Maddy Rymer fourth, and Michaela Miller sixth.

Grace Gartman finished fourth in the 50 yard freestyle at 24.71, followed by Kait Luncher in fifth at 25.00. The 400 yard medley relay finished first, as Carley Vaughn, Mary Zagrobelny, Megan Murphy, and Geskey finished at 3:54.98.

The Championships will continue on Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
