Geskey Named Rookie of the Year as All-CAC Women's Swim Team Named

YORK, Pa. - Frostburg State junior Macey Nitchie, Mary Washington freshman Julia Geskey, and York head coach Greg Doyle received top honors to headline the 2017 All-CAC Women's Swimming team. 

Nitchie became the first female swimmer in Frostburg State history to claim Athlete of the Year recognition at the 2017 CAC Championship meet. Nitchie earned a trio of All-CAC first team awards, winning the sprint freestyle events with golds in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles. 

Mary Washington, which secured its 27th consecutive CAC crown, dominated the All-CAC team with 20 All-CAC nods of the 38 available spots. UMW's Geskey captured Rookie of the Year accolades, becoming the 15th Eagle to receive ROTY. Geskey won the 100 backstroke, took second in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM, and contributed to three relay golds. 

Senior Anna Corley, who won Athlete of the Year honors at the 2016 meet, wrapped up her final championship with seven total golds. Individually, Corley swept the individual medley events with All-CAC first team performances in the 100 IM, 200 IM, and 400 IM. She was also a key part of four winning relays for the Eagles. For her career, Corley collected 21 total All-CAC honors including 18 golds and three silvers. 

UMW junior Maddy Rymer was a first-team honoree in the 200 backstroke and 200 medley relay, and also took home second team honors in the 100 backstroke. Freshmen Sara Dye and Carley Vaughn were first-team all-stars in the 100 breaststroke and 200 butterfly, respectively, and were also each a part of one winning relay. 

Other Eagles to claim All-CAC honors included seniors Shannon Coryell and Lauren Wood, junior Megan Murphy, and sophomore Michaela Miller. Coryell contributed to four winning relays and took silver in the 50 and 100 freestyles. Wood was a part of three gold-medal relays, while Miller earned gold in one relay event. Murphy earned four All-CAC nods, collecting a pair of relay wins and second-place marks in the 1,650 freestyle and 200 butterfly. 

York's Doyle was selected as Coach of the Year by his peers, becoming the second Spartans' women's coach to nab the honor. Doyle is in his second year as the Spartans' boss, and this was his first COTY accolade. 

Maddy Mann, the 2016 Rookie of the Year, put together a stellar meet for York with two All-CAC first team performances and four second team awards. Individually, Mann won the 500 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle, and placed second in the 200 freestyle. The sophomore was also a part of three All-CAC second team relays. Joining Mann on the relays were Rachel SpauldingAndrea SturgisJulia TrudelReilly Kobus, and Danielle Werner. Spaulding was a part of all three relays, Sturgis and Werner were on two relays, and Trudel and Kobus contributed to one second-team placing. 

Marymount notched four All-CAC performances, with three coming from junior Morgan Alston. Alston captured gold in the 200 breaststroke and 100 butterfly to receive a pair of All-CAC first team awards, and also took silver in the 200 IM. Sophomore Taylor Plumley earned second team honors in the 500 freestyle for the Saints. 

Joining Nitchie on the All-CAC team for Frostburg State was sophomore Maddie Weinberger, who took second place in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. 

Salisbury senior Victoria Radcliffe represented the Sea Gulls on the All-CAC squad as a second-team all-star in the 100 IM. 

St. Mary's placed a pair of relays on the All-CAC second team. The quartet of Carolyn SuttonHailley BaughmanRachel Sonnenberg, and Elizabeth Straathof swam to silver in both the 200 and 400 medley relays.
